Should you feed your dog frozen food?
"Frozen (iced) food should be used with great caution as it causes ulceration of the digestive tract. I have noted the care peasants take to prevent their animals from eating roots and other crops touched by frost. Refrigerated meat must be thawed out and, if necessary, well scalded with hot water. I repeat, iced meat is dangerous"

The Whole-istic Truth About Pet Food

Is your dog a gulper? You can try feeding frozen food to your dogs at first, as it forces them to slow down and learn to chew their food. OR, cut up their food so force them to eat little by little.
OR
A solution is to feed the dog only a few pellets at a time. It may take between 10 and 30 minutes to feed about a cup. Why not ask him some simple commands before you drop them!
OR
You can also try to hide the dog food where the dog will have to use his nose in finding them. The dog should learn not to "wolf down" his food after a few sessions

"Feces eating can be related to an internal organ disease, so it could be related to a lack of nutrients.

But more often than not, it's behavior-related," Dr. Beaver said. "In young dogs, it may simply be exploratory in nature. Frequently, however, it's the result of boredom."

Feeding your aging dog

It is not recommend tossing food on the ground, because it teaches the dog to scavenge and pick up "who knows what" at inappropriate times.

Editor's note: ...however, it's a great way to keep a dog's nose active!

The Beef On What's In Your Dog's Food "It's real important to read the ingredients in the food, not just whatever's the cheapest.

A lot of foods use a lot of corn and soy in them and they may be good carbohydrates, but they're not a lot of value to the dog.

You can create a lot of gas in your dog and stuff like that. They're fillers," Hamilton says. A lot of fillers means the dog has to eat more of the food to get the nutrition they need, which means you use more to feed him.

Tripe the best meal for hungry hounds- "Because it has a protein content of just 20% and the calcium/phosphorus ratio is almost balanced tripe is, in my opinion, the best meat to feed on a daily basis. Unlike red meat with its higher protein content and mineral imbalance, tripe can be safely given in virtually unlimited quantities. "

A reader says: USDA database, tripe has a protein content of 12%

Lamb has a fairly low protein level at around 16%, and even beef is only around 19% (it all depends on the cuts, too). By far the highest protein content is found in the white meats - chicken and turkey (around 24%)

What foods to feed on BARF?
Dave says: Note: This is my opinion and others may well disagree. I say K.I.S.S. Chicken necks, wings, legs, giblets, carcass are all good. Lamb and/or mutton ribs or necks, organ meat (kidney, liver), Muscle meat including heart. Raw tripe - a dog will go 'nuts' over it although you may well be put off by the smell :-)

At least 50% of your dog's nourishment should come from Raw meaty bones,
30/35% from muscle meat,
5% from organ meat, and
5% from vegetables but don't worry it you are over/under for several meals. The purpose is to give variety and balance over time.

Remember, ALL dogs are different and the % ages given may need adjusting for YOUR dog.

Toothbrushin'

How to introduce a TOOTHBRUSH to your pooch
Taken from Elapsotimes.com

* Slowly introduce your dog to the toothbrush. Get your dog used to the toothbrush by associating the toothbrush with treats.
* Peanut butter seems to work. In the first session, let your dog lick the peanut butter off the toothbrush. Do this a couple of times so that your dog associates the toothbrush with something good. This can be done in one night or over several nights for more timid dogs.
* Once you gain your pet's trust, slowly introduce the toothbrush to the dog's mouth and brush its teeth as you would yours. Be sure to brush the gum lines as well as the teeth.
* Don't worry if you can't reach all the back teeth. Chew toys such as cotton rope toys will help clean these areas.

TOOTHPASTE
Do not use human toothpaste.
As a human, you are able to brush your teeth and spit out the toothpaste. Dogs cannot. Besides, swallowing the fluoride in human toothpaste can upset stomachs and make them sick. *Flavoured toothpastes for dogs are available at most pet stores.

FINGERBRUSH Smaller dogs' mouths make it difficult to brush their teeth. In these cases, use a finger brush. A finger brush is like a tooth brush that fits on a finger. These smaller brushes allow you to massage the gum line and brush the teeth with a much smaller opening in the dog's mouth and is usually easier to manipulate.

Other thoughts on health

Jane's purely personal though about marmite
Use Marmite with caution, salt is one of it's main ingredient. Salt or it's taste is addictive, and excessive use of salt causes leaching of calcium out of the body. If you are looking to add B vitamins, try brewers yeast instead.

Bee Pollen
Could it be that Bee Pollen & Kelp are 2 different things that help with poo & soil eating dogs? Could it be that they both are sources of many trace elements that the dogs might lack?

Questions

Is it normal for dogs to eat grass?

"It is normal for dogs to eat grass in very small amounts," Dr. Beaver said. "Their ancestors ate [grass]. It's roughage. We tend to see a problem with consumption of grass when dogs don't have access to it all year long. When they're exposed to fresh grass, they tend to eat too much and can't digest. Because large quantities act as an irritant, the dog throws up. The owner then thinks the dog ate the grass to induce omiting [because it is sick]."

What to do if a dog is stung by a bee or wasp? Carefully remove the stinger with tweezers, if it is accessible, (only bees leave stingers)
Make a paste of baking soda and water and pply to the sting area
Apply an ice pack to relieve swelling and pain and alternate it on and off the sting site
Sit and comfort the dog until the pain has gone away. From American Kennel Club
